The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) is readying themselves for the upcoming general election and has launched a training workshop dubbed “2018 Harmonised Elections ZRP Train the Trainer Workshop” to be facilitated by Zimbabwe Electoral Commission.

Speaking at the launch of the workshop, ZEC Chairperson Justice Priscilla Chigumba noted that the attitude and behaviour of statutory bodies such as the ZEC and ZRP is significant in shaping perceptions of fairness and ultimately the credibility of the forthcoming elections.

Police Commissioner General Godwin Matanga says capacity building on police officers on their duties and their responsibilities in the forthcoming elections is of paramount importance as well as upholding the Zimbabwean constitution.

Participants to the workshop will be drawn from the police professional updating centres, ZRP legal officers and the 2018 harmonised elections committee members in an effort to fulfill President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s clarion call of holding a free, fair and credible election.
