The Zimbabwe National Road Authority (ZINARA) says the contentious $60 000 allegedly spent on hairstyles for its executives was actually splashed on front office staff as part of the parastatal’s marketing strategy for the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF).

The Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Transport and Infrastructural Development was left speechless after ZINARA board chairperson, Engineer Michael Madanha informed members on the allocation of the large sum of money.

Engineer Mandanha revealed to the committee that since 2010, ZINARA has usurped the mandate of local authorities, creating a system of funding road works that is open to manipulation.

The committee ordered the board to institute a lifestyle audit into its employees who are reportedly living large.

ZINARA also argued against plans to let local authorities do vehicle licencing, stating that since its establishment, the roads authority has overseen a marked improvement in revenue collection despite the allegations of poor corporate governance and business malpractices.
