Zimbabwe is getting ready for the Afrobasket tournament with indications that the Under16 girls team is already in camp.
After getting automatic qualification to the Afrobasket tournament set for Beira in Mozambique from the 3rd to the 12th of August owing to failure by other countries to compete for the slot, Zimbabwe joins the hosts as the region’s representatives with high hopes of posting good performances.
A 19-member team is currently in camp with the final squad set to be unveiled on the 24th of July.
This will be the third time the girls team participates at the finals that will see 15 other countries tussling it out for the continental bragging rights.
The first time was 6 years ago in Egypt before the second dance in the 2015 event hosted by Mauritius.
With the draw set for this week, the Basketball Union of Zimbabwe secretary general Joe Mujuru believes that the country can look up to the impressive performances that have been showcased by junior teams in previous competitions.
Mujuru also revealed that his association was busy with its drive of setting up provincial structures, with Bulawayo, Harare, Manicaland and Midlands having already been concluded.
