cuthbert dube zifa president 11-10-10.jpgZIFA has commissioned the Local Organising Committee (LOC) of the Confederation of Southern African Football Associations (Cosafa) which will oversee the running of the women’s tournament which kicks off this Saturday.

The Local Organising Committee will be headed by two co-chairpersons, Engineer Fred Moyo of Hwange Colliery and businesswoman and Zimbabwe Tourism Authority Chairperson, Marah Hativagone.

They will be assisted by two vice chairmen, Brigadier General Elliot Kasu- Administration and Ndumiso Gumede-Technical, while Mavis Moyo is the national co-ordinator.

The tournament runs from the 2nd to the 9th of July in Harare.

Zimbabwe was nominated at short notice to host the eight nation football tournament after the initial hosts Reunion experienced problems.

Addressing the media and some members of the Local Organising Committee, Zifa President, Cuthbert Dube said the board accepted to host the tournament in good faith after the regional body agreed to provide a seed grant and underwrite accommodation expenses and referees per diem expenses.

To ensure accountability and transparency, the committee would publish an income and expenditure sheet in national the media.

Zifa Board Member Finance, Brigadier General Elliot Kasu said the committee has a diverse mix of expertise which Zifa should be able to draw upon even after the tournament.

The 14 member regional football body will also bring in women 16 referees from the region to officiate.

Zimbabwe last hosted the tournament in 2009.

The Mighty Warriors have qualified for the All Africa Games in Mozambique this year and the tournament will be good preparation for the national women’s team.
