Government says it is the duty of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces (ZDF) to maintain an enabling environment for socio â€“economic development, hence the need for patriotic officers endowed with professional integrity.
This was said by the Minister of Defence, Cde Emmerson Mnangagwa on the occasion of the graduation ceremony of Junior Staff Course Number 55 at the Zimbabwe Staff College in Harare.
Cde Mnangagwa said there is need for members of the security forces to be aware that neo-colonial forces are at play in the countryâ€™s socio-economic and political arena.
â€œYour study of vital aspects of Zimbabweâ€™s socio economic issues and their influence on statehood and nation building enabled you to understand the dynamics of contemporary challenges obtained in various parts of the world and in Zimbabwe in particular,â€ said Cde Mnangagwa.
Cde Mnangagwa also acknowledged the contribution made by the Peopleâ€™s Liberation Army of China which has been assisting the Zimbabwe Staff College since 2004.
The graduation saw 57 security forces from SADC nations namely Zimbabwe, Namibia, Tanzania, Botswana and Lesotho receiving certificates after completing a six months training course.
Among the 57 graduating students were 5 female, 3 from the Zimbabwe National Army, and one each from the Zimbabwe Republic Police and the Zimbabwe Prison Services.
