The typhoid outbreak whose epicentre appears to be in Harare has continued to spread across the country.
Epidemiology Disease Control Director in the Ministry of Health And Child Welfare, Dr Portia Manangazira, says 170 new cases were recorded across the country from the 20th to the 26th of February, with Harare accounting for 155 new cases.
From the cumulative cases, 19 cases of typhoid have so far tested positive after laboratory tests, and of these eight were from Bindura.
The ministry has also put in place rapid response teams to help curb the disease which has so far spread to other areas such as Chitungwiza, Bindura and Makonde District.
Dr Manangazira also confirmed that Natpharm has ordered some more drugs used to treat typhoid.
She however lamented the lack of knowledge among the new crop of medical personnel who had never been exposed to an old disease such as typhoid.
