A two week old baby girl was dumped and discovered at a tributary to the Chamapendere River in Musume, Mberengwa.

The incident which happened on Monday afternoon has been the talk of the community with fellow women still at loss of words to describe the type of woman who made a decision to dump the innocent soul.

Mrs Edith Masarira narrated how she found the baby dumped at the tributary.

“I was doing my chores at home when one a neighbour came rushing to my homestead after her husband had met the girl while looking for cooking sticks in the bush. The state of the baby touched me as we could see she was hungry and in dirty tattered clothes,” she said.

Mai Masarira and the other women took the baby to the nearest Musume Hospital.

Musume Lutheran Mission Hospital Pastor-in-Charge Mr Moment Mavesera confirmed the incident and pleaded with well wishers to donate towards the upkeep of the child.

“As an institution that is responsible for saving and keeping lives to the community we can confirm we have the child in our custody although we need a hand for her upkeep,” he said.

Acting Sister-in-Charge Mrs Gamuchirai Macheza said the baby is in good health although the hospital cannot afford sourcing her milk hence the appeal.

“The baby is well although she needs assistance in food and clothes. We have been giving her f100 milk instead of Nani,” she said.

A health card was left with the baby under the name Prudence Hove and the card number health center is 070604 Murongwe Clinic.
