The Head of State and Government and the Commander-in-Chief of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, President Robert Mugabe has paid tribute to the Zanu PF Party and the government for according the late Cde Sabina Mugabe national heroine status.
Addressing hundreds of mourners at the first family home in Zvimba on Friday, Cde Mugabe said Tete Sabina was a dedicated cadre who over the years participated in the fight against colonialism in a way that should always be rememberedÂ .
Cde Mugabe saidÂ his sister was at timesÂ a courier of messages to leaders like the late hero, Cde Herbert Chitepo who was in Zambia during the liberation struggle.
â€œShe did a great job for a long time without losing focus, she was our messenger during the struggle and nothing can stop her from being declared a national hero,â€ said President Mugabe.
He said the principles of patriotism which guided cadres in the liberation struggle is the same spirit which guides Zimbabweans today in resisting subjugation once more.
He said his sister suffered a stroke and the Mugabe family is yet to get the results of the post mortem.
President Mugabe thanked all the people who came to grieve with the Mugabe family.
The body is lying in state at the family homestead at Kutama in Zvimba and is expected to be flown back to the late heroineâ€™s Eastlea home in Harare today where it will also lie in state before burial at the national shrine tomorrow.
