The ongoing trial of former Zimbabwe National Road Administration (ZINARA) Finance Director, Simon Taranhike who is facing charges of criminal abuse of office continued this Thursday with the accused opening up on why he was detained and fired from ZINARA.
During cross examination Taranhike revealed that he is receiving anonymous calls threatening him not to mention anything concerning the new ZINARA board during his trial.
Taranhike who was fired on the 17th of this month told the court that he received a letter terminating his contract soon after leaving the court, hence the suspicion of underhand shenanigans behind his arrest.
He denied allegations of abuse of office saying he suspected that his arrests were orchestrated by ZINARA’s former Acting Chief Executive Officer Mathlene Mujokoro who temporally occupied the post.
Taranhike told the court he was against the operations at the state enterprise citing the mismanagement of funds by managers and executives who paid themselves hefty salaries.
