The private sector has a critical role to play in ensuring that institutions of higher learning produce quality graduates required by industry through supporting the education sector.

Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo Polytechnic College’s department of horticulture has once again become the biggest beneficiary of Beitbridge Juicing Company’s corporate social responsibility programme after the organisation donated state of-the-art irrigation equipment to the institution of higher learning.

The gesture by the company follows the realisation that there is need to revitalise the horticulture sector which was once the second largest foreign currency earner after tobacco.

The government commended the company for investing in the education sector saying public-private-partnerships are the way to go, if the country is to achieve national development.

The continued support from industry will enable the college to produce fully fledged horticulturalists.

The company has so far invested US$25 000 towards supporting the horticulture department having previously donated a greenhouse and a borehole that yields 17 000 litres per hour.
