Seven Zimbabwean athletes are set to leave the country tomorrow for the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) World U18 championships scheduled for Kenya from the 12th to the 16th of this month at the Moi International Sports Centre.

Coach Brian Nhubu said he is confident that the athletes are ready and geared to conquer the world at the tournament.

16 year old Mazoe High School student Tapiwa Makarau who is going to participate in the 200m race and Vimbai Masvoreva together with Arage Mutombo from Mashonaland West said despite it being the first time to be part of this prestigious tournament they are confident of bringing a gold medal back home.

Former St George’s sprinter Alfred Chaonza who is now based in the USA together with South African based Donovan Mutariswa who scooped a gold medal at the just ended Africa Junior Championships in Algeria in a 400 * 100 metre relay will join the Zimbabwe team in Kenya.

The 2017 edition will be the last edition of the IAAF World U18 championships after the IAAF council decided to discontinue the event.
