Four foreign nationals including three Mozambicans and one from the Democratic Republic of Congo have appeared in court for allegedly stealing property worth more than US$3 000 at the Tongogara Refugee Camp.

The four, Sarah Sigauke (37) Vimbai Sithole (19), Susan Sithole (37) and Rebeca Bambi (27) have been remanded in custody at Chipinge Magistrate Court.

The court heard that on the 26th of last month, the complainant Tatenda Mapimbiro got a tip-off that there were some goods that were being loaded into an Inter Africa bus at a local terminus.

Mapimbiro reported the case to the police who searched the bus and recovered several household goods, water pipes and a tent that were in the possession of Queen Makumbe who said she had bought the goods from the four.

In their defense, the four pleaded not guilty to the theft charge claiming that they had picked the materials from the camp.

They will appear again in court on the 5th of this month for trial.
