School children have been urged to shun drug abuse and early child marriages which destroy their lives.
This came out during the Child Festival held in Mukafose, which saw pupils from different primary and secondary schools gathering to celebrate the event together.
Representatives of the girl child organisations weighed in saying drug abuse and early child marriages are a cause for concern, urging society to join hands in fighting these social ills.
Organiser of the event, Dr Dunny Derera told ZBC News that Mufakose has many cases of early child marriages, a situation that needs to be addressed urgently.
“We want to make sure that awareness campaigns are done to send a message to these children about the dangers of early child marriages and drug abuse,” said Dr Derera.
Guest speaker at the event, Dr Betty Kaseke condemned parents who force children to get married early.
“We want to thank the First Lady, Amai Auxillia Mnangagwa for her support for the girl child which is transforming the lives of people across the country,” she said.
The gathering was filled with cheers and joy as children participated in many activities which included showcasing their dance moves.
