A call has been made for communities to jealously guard and preserve the natural environment.
The Minister of State for Mashonaland East Province, Retired Brigadier General, Retired Ambrose Mutinhiri said this during the handover of training of trainers certificates at Mahusekwa Growth Point in Marondera.
87 people from Marondera West constituency received certificates after completing the training of trainers course in environmental monitoring from the Environmental Management Agency (EMA).
Retired Brigadier General Mutinhiri applauded EMA’s community project and also challenged the participants to work together in their communities in preserving the environment.
Speaking to the ZBC News soon after the handover ceremony, EMA Environmental Education and Publicity Officer for Mashonaland East Province, Mr Astas Mabwe said they will continue to engage communities in order to safeguard the environment, while some of the trained villagers promised to take the training to their respective communities.
The training, which was done in partnership with Agritex and Forestry Commission, has so far covered Chikomba West and Marondera West and plans are underway to take the project to other areas in the province.
