Zanu PF Secretary for the Commissariat and Chegutu East House of Assembly member, Cde Webster Shamu has castigated MDC-T led councils for engaging in corrupt activities and urged the people in his constituency to rally behind Zanu PF in elections expected next year.
Speaking during a donation of an ambulance and bicycles to be used for developmental purposes in his constituency, as well as the presentation of a plan for a bakery to be constructed at Neuso Business Centre, Cde Shamu, who is also the Minister of Media, Information and Publicity, castigated the MDC-T party leadership for promoting corruption at the expense of addressing people’s needs.
“Zanu PF is a developmental party and our President, Cde Robert Mugabe does not want thieves, he does not want corruption. On the other hand, MDC is an opportunistic party, a party whose leaders and councils are not people centred but only obsessed with lining their pockets,” said Cde Shamu.
He said it is surprising that the MDC-T party is castigating government efforts of empowering its nationals through programmes such as the indigenisation and empowerment policy when all it is doing is engaging in corrupt activities in the councils under the party’s leadership.
Neuso Business Centre has an MDC-T councilor and people in the area have raised concern on the way the councilor is alleged to be conniving with an international mining giant operating in the area to offer jobs at the mine on party lines.
Zimbabwe is likely to hold elections next year and Zanu PF through its Commissariat Department is making frantic efforts to strengthen itself from the grassroots levels while the MDC formations have been accused of dragging their feet on the elections issue despite the expiry of the inclusive government according to the Global Political Agreement timeframe.
