Caps United reclaimed their place at the top of the PSL standings following a 3-2 win over Mushowani Stars in a thrilling contest at the giant National Sports Stadium this afternoon.
Makepekepe were, however, made to dig deep by a spirited Mushowani Stars.
The Harare giants had begun the match on the front foot with the Green Machine opening the scoring courtesy of Godwin Goriyati in the 6th minute.
Makepekepe were then caught napping two minutes later with Evans Katema beating his markers before enticing a foul from inside the box.
Mushowani’s dead ball specialist took up the responsibility of penalty take and handed the visitors an equaliser.
The visitors then took the lead in the 33rd minute with great build up play culminating in a cross that was headed home by Katema.
The Bindura based side, however, failed to hold onto the lead heading to the half time break with an alert Dominic Chungwa capitalising on sloppy marking inside the box as the game went to half time level at 2-2.
The second half was evenly balanced with both sides creating opportunities but Lloyd Chitembwe’s substitution at the start of the second half proved a masterstroke after Ronald Chitiyo headed home an inviting cross from Phineas Bamusi in the 79th minute.
Caps United held on for the three points to reclaim pole position on 19 points.
In other encounters, Chicken Inn hammered Chapungu 3-0 as TelOne and Manica Diamonds played out a 1-1 draw.
Highlanders and Herentals drew 0-0 in Sunday’s other contest.
