Local authorities are putting in place measures to ensure housing provision targets are met in line with the dictates of the rapid results approach, spearheaded by the Office of the President and Cabinet.

Mutare’s population is now in excess of 300 000 people and the growth of the city has also seen the demand for housing rising.

Mutare Acting Chief Planning Officer, Mr Richard Simbi said the ease of doing business reforms will see the city cutting down on the number of days for housing plan approval to two days from the current five.

Manicaland Minister of State, Cde Mandi Chimene said there is need for adherence to laid out procedures as well as benchmarking with other countries so that Zimbabwe adopts the latest designs and technologies in meeting the housing provision targets.

The goal of housing provision has been captured at policy level through the ZIMASSET document that seeks to avail over 313 000 units by 2018.
