Zimbabwe has been given the go ahead to export the Marange diamond without KP supervision.

This follows four days of deliberations on the country’s diamonds in the Kimberly Process plenary meeting in the DRC.

In a telephone interview, Mines and Mining Development Minister Obert Mpofu said the KP meeting has endorsed Marange Resources and Mbada Diamond’s exportation of diamonds without any supervision.

Minister Mpofu added that other mining firms operating in Chiadzwa will be monitored to ensure compliance before the November Plenary meeting to review progress in respective mines.

The green light for the exportation of the country’s diamonds will fly in the face of western nations which have been blocking the free trading of diamonds by Zimbabwe in the past two years.

With the existence of illegal economic sanctions imposed on the country by western nations, it is believed that the endorsement to trade in diamonds will act as a sanctions busting mechanism as the economy will record high growth rates owing to an increased revenue base.
