The Department of Immigration has described reports alleging that it is responsible for the over-detention of the six illegal immigrants as mischievous and has announced that a detailed statement on the issue will be released this week.
Responding to reports in which the department of immigration is accused of being directly responsible for the over-detention of the seven immigrants who are at Harare Central Prison, the officials from the department have dismissed the allegations as false.

Mr Masango added that it should be made clear that the department has no arresting authority and that its mandate is to control and facilitate of movement of people into and out of the country.
The six illegal immigrants from Nigeria, South Sudan, Ethiopia, Kenya and South Africa recently staged a 9-day hunger strike in protest over their lengthy detention.
