Government has strongly condemned plans by a Chinese company Aihu Jianye to conduct open cast quarry stones mining in the Domboshava Hills and Caves site, activities which are likely to affect nearly 20 000 people, schools, clinics and other infrastructure.

Domboshava is a heritage site with caves and rock paintings that attract tourists and the destruction of these caves and hills will negatively impact the tourism industry and the community at large and government has condemned plans by a Chinese to mine quarry in the area.

Addressing community members at Zimbiru Primary School in Domboshava, Deputy Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Cde Energy Mutodi said government is not aware of the quarry stone mining project and warned those behind illegal sale of land to stop immediately.

“There are some corrupt elements in the society whom we need to deal with and we are aware who is behind this and i have approached President Mnangagwa about this issue,” he said.

The Domboshava community strongly opposed the planned mining saying their area is a scared place.

Chief Chinamora, MDC Alliance lead councillor Tapiwa Murima and the Goromonzi Rural District Council District Administrator Priscah Dube have been mentioned as the culprits behind conniving with the Chinese company to conduct quarry stone mining in the area.
