The Mhondoro Ngezi community is set to benefit from a goat rearing project spearheaded by the First Lady, Amai Auxillia Mnangagwa’s Angel of Hope Foundation.
Zimbabwe’s largest population resides in the rural areas and community empowerment projects such as the First Lady’s goat rearing initiative will go a long way in sustaining livelihoods.
Local traditional leaders thanked Amai Mnangagwa for her kind gesture soon after receiving goats to kick-start the project in Mhondoro Ngezi this Friday,
“We are very excited by this project as you know many of us have lost cattle from an outbreak so the goats will sustain us,” Chief Mushava said.
Representing the First Lady, Angel of Hope Foundation facilitator, Miss Lisa Mutuke urged the community to join hands in making sure the project is a success.
“This project is not only for Chiefs and Village Heads but it is a community project because by the end of the day everyone will benefit. It is everyone’s responsibility to work towards the success of this programme,” she said.
Mhondoro Ngezi legislator, Venganai Mkhuhlane welcomed the initiative but raised concern over the community’s under-development despite playing host to one of the country’s rich mineral.
“We want to thank Amai for the noble initiative as this will empower our community. Mhondoro Ngezi is the most underdeveloped of the constituencies but here lies the biggest mineral and largest forex earner, platinum so we are happy if our leaders remember us with such empowerment programmes,” he expressed his concern.
Apart from the goat rearing project, the Chiefs also received food hampers.
