zim maize22.jpgFarmers around Harare’s peripheries have made significant progress in the 2010-2011 farming season with some already weeding their early crops.


With good rains having been received so far in Harare and surrounding areas, some farmers have made significant progress especially with the early crop some of which is now at weeding stage.


Farmers who spoke to ZBC News said with the way the rains are falling, the 2010-2011 agricultural season promises to be a better year in respect of maize and small-grain crops.


The 2010-2011 agricultural season has been affected by inadequate funding forcing farmers to acquire inputs at very high prices which is likely to compromise their marketing season with a metric tonne of maize pegged at US$275.


Meanwhile, reports from other parts of the country indicate that rains are relatively low though farmers are still optimistic of a successful season.
