The illegal allocation of residential stands in Harare’s Epworth suburb will soon be a thing of the past as the Epworth Local Board is set to regularise all settlements this month.
For a long time the Epworth illegal settlements have been a threat to public health as residents were in the habit of erecting structures without council planning permission.
Epworth residents however blame land barons who distributed land illegally.
In its endeavour to bring order to the sprawling settlement, the Epworth Local Board said plans are on course to ensure sanity prevails in the suburb.
Area legislator Cde Zalerah Makari told the ZBC News the land audit currently underway will pave way for the smooth regularisation of residential stands.
Epworth suburb currently has an estimated population of 180 000 residents with indications hinting that three quarters of them are illegally settled.
