Government says COMESA member states should embrace new agricultural technologies to increase productivity and enhance competition on the international market.

Since the COMESA trading bloc seeks to enhance competition of agricultural products on the international market, government has called on member states to increase productivity for the growth of their economies.

Officially opening the COMESA Agro Dealer Workshop in Harare, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture, Mechanisation and Irrigation Development, Mr Ngoni Masoka, who was represented by the Principal Director in the ministry, Mr Willian Shereni said besides embracing new technologies, there is also need for value-addition.

Agro Dealer Component Manager, Mr Jones Govereh said the capacity building programme seeks to compliment government efforts towards boosting yield per hectare and ensuring the provision of agricultural services to farmers.

The COMESA Agro Dealer Workshop has attracted delegates from members of the COMESA trading bloc and envisages to deliberate on ways of engaging smallholder farmers through opening up the bloc’s market.
