What made the success even sweeter is that the team comprised relatively new players who had never tasted action on such a grand stage.

National Darts Association of Zimbabwe President, Meynard Moyo said the team’s performance was outstanding, particularly the women who were a cut above the rest.

“Zimbabwe’s performance was magnificent. It was a great improvement from the performance at last year’s competition.

“The women did the country proud by finishing as the overall winners, with much credit to Tabeth Zhoya and Melody Gezana for an outstanding performance in her first major competition. The men also did well to finish second behind South Africa, so the team deserves a pat on the back for a job well done,” said Moyo.

The Zone 6 Darts Championship also witnessed a powerful exhibition by the two juniors who were doing duty for the nation with Kudzai Nyemba settling for silver after finishing second, while Michael Thomas won a bronze medal for his third place finish.

Eight countries - Zimbabwe, Zambia, Botswana, Namibia, Swaziland, South Africa, Malawi and hosts Lesotho - competed at the Zone 6 Darts Championship which ended in Maseru on Saturday.
