Top ranked Zimbabwean players will play their Chinese counterparts in this year’s edition of The Chinese Ambassador’s Cup China-Zimbabwe table tennis tournament set for this Friday at the Belvedere Technical Teachers Training College in Harare.

The annual tournament, which is one of the biggest fixtures on the local table tennis calendar, is meant to give players with a national ranking the much needed experience and exposure.

The tournament will feature Zimbabwe and Chinese men and women’s teams, as well as singles matches with preliminaries being held this Friday and finals on Saturday.

President of the Zimbabwe Table Tennis Union, John Muringani said the event is likely to toast fireworks as players from both Zimbabwe and China have prepared thoroughly for the ping-pong showdown.

Prince Edward High School’s Beit Hall was a hive of activity when the ZBC News visited to check on preparations by team Zimbabwe where players from all the country’s provinces with national rankings were practicing for the competitive development tournament.

The tournament, which is sponsored by local companies and Chinese business communities in Zimbabwe, is expected to further strengthen the friendship and promote bilateral co-operation between the two countries.

The tournament will be hosted by the Chinese Embassy in Zimbabwe and co-organised by the Zimbabwe Chinese Table Tennis Association and the Zimbabwe Table Tennis Union.
