john mafa and webster shamu.pngCde John Mafa has won the Zanu PF Mashonaland West Provincial Chairmanship election.

Cde Mafa garnered 1 255 votes followed by Cde Walter Chidhakwa who got 711 votes.

Another candidate, Cde Reuben Marumahoko garnered 513, while Cde Marashwa got 52 votes.

The election results were announced by Zanu PF’s National Political Commissar, Cde Webster Shamu at the Zanu PF Mashonaland West provincial headquarters in Chinhoyi.

The newly-elected chairman pledged to safeguard the interests of the party by ensuring that unity prevails in the province.


“I would like to thank all the delegates who have elected me for showing faith in my leadership qualities, so I pledge to lead this province and execute my leadership duties in a way that will develop the Zanu PF party,” said Cde Mafa.


One of the losing candidates, Cde Walter Chidhakwa, said the provincial chairmanship election charts a path for the party and is an example of how the party should conduct primary elections.

Another candidate, Cde Moffat Marashwa accepted defeat saying the result is a reflection of the will of the people.

A total of 2 580 votes were cast in the election.
