Public and private institutions have been challenged to invest more in sport and recreations to compliment government efforts in spreading the reach of sport in all communities.

The Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services (ZPCS) held a sports tournament to select teams that will battle it out at the Commissioner General’s sports week slated for September this year.

Deputy Director for sports in Mashonaland Central Province, Mr Samuel Mashatise commended the ZPCS for its endeavour to promote sports adding government requires public and private support in enhancing uptake of sports.

“These games are a noble initiative which should be applauded, provision of sport and recreation cannot be left to government alone,” he said.

ZPCS Deputy Officer Commanding Mashonaland Central Province Assistant Commissioner Imelda Chifodya who was representing Senior Assistant Commissioner Kenny Ndebele urged ZPCS officers to maximise the opportunity to identify talent.

“Everyone here must embrace sports, it may just unlock a worthwhile career,” said Senior Assistant Commissioner Ndebele

Five teams in all sporting disciplines made up of officers and inmates competed for honours to represent the province in this year’s ZPCS Commissioner General’s Tournament to be held in Ntabazinduna.
