The Bulawayo Volleyball League sides have expressed readiness for the impending season following a successful pre-season tournament held at Milton High School over the weekend.
The two-day tournament had five women’s and 10 men’s teams taking part in what was described as a dress rehearsal for the start of the 2019 season that is set to commence in three weeks time.
This year’s league will have new sides taking part namely, TelOne, Elephants, Khami Prison and Western and Southern districts.
Although the performance started a bit sluggishly owing to the offseason inactivity, action picked up as the tournament progressed.
Bulawayo Volleyball Association Chairman William Mazviro reiterated the league’s resolution to build a brand that is attractive to the corporate sector this season.
Participating teams also expressed satisfaction with the action although some spoke on the need to improve on certain areas of the game.
NUST proved their dominance as they won in both the men and women’s divisions.
Hurricanes, Luveve, Bulawayo Polytechnic College and Lupane State University were runners up in that order in the women’s section.
In the men’s category, Vulindlela Moyo’s rebuilding Bulawayo Spartans were second while defending champions Highlanders, Hurricanes and debutants Elephants came out third to fifth respectively.
