The Zimbabwe senior men’s national football team, the Warriors coach Sunday Chidzambga has resigned.

Chidzambga said his resignation is with immediate effect adding that he is grateful to the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) for giving him the opportunity to serve as the national team coach.

ZIFA Communications and Competitions Manager Xolisani Gwesela confirmed the local soccer mother body has received Chidzambga’s resignation letter.

Chidzambga’s resignation comes after Zimbabwe’s disappointing campaign at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations where the Warriors were eliminated at the group stage with just a point from three matches.

The veteran coach also came under fire for his player selection after excluding one of the inform players in the local league, Joel Ngodzo of Caps United in his provisional squad for the Chan tournament although the player was later included following a public outcry.

Meanwhile, ZIFA said Rahman Gumbo will be in charge of the Warriors Chan encounter against Mauritius at the end of this month assisted by Lloyd Mutasa.
