A memorial service has been held for the late national heroine Cde Shuvai Ben Mahofa at Mupandawana in Gutu.
The people of Gutu came in their numbers for a memorial service held for the late national heroine at her home at Mupandawana growth point.
Various speakers, who included Vice President Cde Emmerson Mnangagwa, reflected on the life of the late national heroine.
Cde Mahofa who at the time of her death was serving as Masvingo Minister of State for Provincial Affairs was fondly known as ‘Chikoforo’ due to her nature of hard work.
Friends, relatives and government officials took time to remember Cde Mahofa’s contribution to the society.
Her daughter, Sally Mahofa said as a family they are still battling to come to terms with her passing, adding that they are finding solace in the Bible.
Vice President Mnangagwa said the fact that Cde Mahofa was given national heroine status bears testimony of her hard work during the days of the liberation struggle as well as post independence.
He said Cde Mahofa was a strong character who stood on her word.
Cde Mnangagwa said Cde Mahofa’s dedication to uplifting others in society was evident through the various empowerment projects she initiated for women.
The late national heroine who died on the 14th of August will continue to be remembered as someone who fought to uplift society through various projects.
