At least 2000 women are set to be empowered in various sectors of the economy under an initiative being spearheaded by Single Mothers Foundation.

Statistics point to a worrying trend facing women in Zimbabwe particularly single mothers who have to bear the brunt of economic hardships with at least 80 percent of them relegated to poverty.

Chief executive officer of the Single Mothers Foundation Tinaye Zenenga said they will empower single mothers to remove the dependency syndrome through various projects.

“Our aim is to educate and empower women to sustain their lives,”he said.

Brand ambassador for the Single Mothers Foundation Jacqueline Tinovimbika Ngarande said the aim is to uplift single mothers and alleviate them from poverty.

“They are various projects that will benefit women that include farming and mining among others,” said Mrs Tinovimbika Ngarande.

The Single Mothers Foundation 2018 year will run under the theme, “Year of Restoration to Uplift Women”.
