The Zimbabwe Women Resource Centre and Network(ZWRCN) has signed a memorandum of understanding that will see the mainstreaming of gender into the parliamentary business and provision of financial support.

The agreement which was signed provides for the funding of various parliament activities in mainstreaming gender to the tune of three hundred thousand for the next two years.


It is subject to review.

The Clerk of Parliament, Mr. Austin Zvoma, expressed parliament’s willingness to cooperate with various partners in programmes that assist legislators in understanding gender budgeting and other issues that relate to the equality between men and women.

ZWRCN Executive Director, Ms Naomi Chimbetete said the relationship between her organisation and parliament has been formalised, paving way for enhanced cooperation in ensuring that legislators understand fully the dynamics associated with gender issues.

The parliament has been cooperating with various partners in ensuring that legislators have an appreciation of gender issues which culminated in the establishment of the women’s parliamentary caucus.


This is in line with SADC principles that promote equality between men and women through the passing of relevant legislation. The signing ceremony was attended by the speaker of the House of Assembly, Mr. Lovemore Moyo, the Deputy President of the Senate, Cde Naison Ndlovu and other senior officials from parliament.
