The role of universities has been instrumental in developing top athletes across the globe.
Despite the existence of vibrant university programmes in other countries, Zimbabwe continues to lag behind due to a standpoint that views sport as insignificant at university level.
ZUSA president Life Chemhere says the attitude colleges take towards sport is a fundamental part of efforts to transform the sports industry.
Chemhere made the remarks after the commencement of the ZUSA games which got underway at the University of Zimbabwe this Friday.
Zimbabwe Rugby Union president Nyararai Sibanda was the guest of honour at the official opening ceremony held in the capital.
Hosts UZ, Chinhoyi University, National University of Science and Technology, Midlands State University and Lupane State University and Bindura University of Science Education make part of the 13 participants at this year’s event.
