cell phone.jpgThe Zimbabwe Tourism Authority has commended the launch of the Tourism Mobile Gateway that will enable both domestic and foreign tourists to access tourism information and related products and services on their mobile phones, saying it will help Zimbabwe move with the times in terms of technology.

Zimbabwe Tourism Authority Acting Chief Executive, Mr Givemore Chidzidzi said the e-tourism platform is expected to increase domestic tourism considering that it reaches a wider audience of over 5 million mobile users thereby increasing the sectors’ contribution to the national Gross Domestic Product.

“We realised that mobile phones are now easily accessible to people from all walks of life hence the move by ZTA and Net One to use the mobile phone as a tool to promote tourism”.

“The e-tourism platform is a cost effective means of searching for tourism information as through texts messages one can be in a position to get all the information they might require,” said Chidzidzi.

Chidzidzi added that although the e-tourism platform is still administered by Net One, plans are underway that all mobile networks will soon come on board.

The facility, which can be accessed by pressing *120*2010# is a clear indication that Zimbabwe is keeping abreast with technological changes which is expected to allow the tourists to get directions on their mobile phone to the tourism facility they require.

The Tourism mobile gateway is just one of the many strategies the government is currently undertaking to revive the Tourism Sector so that the country retains its position as one of the best tourism destination.
