The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) says it continues to recognise the importance of gender equality in all its policing policies in tandem with the national and international gender equality conventions and protocols.

Addressing police officers at the conferment of ranks to promoted chief inspectors and inspectors at the provincial headquarters in Marondera, ZRP Officer Commanding Mashonaland East Province, Senior Assistant Commissioner Abigirl Moyo said the promotion of some women to the ranks shows that the ZRP values gender equality in its policing policies.

“Without doubt, it is quite evident that as a 21st century policing organisation, we remain alive to the imperative need to gender mainstream all policing policies and processes in order to ensure gender equality, culminating in equal job opportunities for both men and women,” she said.

14 assistant inspectors were promoted to the rank of Inspector and nine inspectors to the rank of Chief inspector.
