chess diagram.jpgThe Zimbabwe Police chess team has set its aims on breaking the jinx and coin their own piece of history by beating accomplished champions and biggest threats Angola at the SARPCCO games which the Democratic Republic of Congo will host this August.

The ZRP will field four players in chess hoping to turn the tables and go for gold after having lived through silver and bronze in the past.

Coach Farai Janure says the mentorship that the team is receiving from Africa’s number one Chess Player Master, Robert Gwaze is expected to shift the tide in favor of Zimbabwe.

‘We know our biggest challenge is from  the Angolans but now that we have invaded their war style through what we are being taught by Robert Gwaze we are hoping to this time beat the Angolans and take the gold,” said Janure.

It has been a tale of so near yet so far for Zimbabwe’s police chess team which won bronze in the last games.

Zimbabwe won silver in the inaugural games in 2005 and again in 2007.
