The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Drugs and Narcotic unit has been challenged to eradicate drug trafficking in Beitbridge.
Beitbridge has a serious challenge of drug abuse and the illicit activity is said to be fueled by poor border control.
Member of the House of Assembly for Beitbridge East, Cde Albert Ngulube said police especially the drugs and narcotic unit must bring to book the drug lords who are peddling drugs in the town as well as those who are abusing the substance.
“There is a lot of drug abuse in the town and I am told some of them are bringing these drugs from South Africa, but we have not seen any arrests and we say to the police, Beitbridge must be a drug free town and those in this illegal trade must be arrested,” he said.
Ngulube further appealed for the opening of new crossing points along the Zimbabwe, South Africa frontier as well as the re-introduction of crossing permits for the local population who have relatives across the Limpopo river.
Proposals have been put in place to open new crossing points in Beitbridge East and Shashe in the west.
