zrp2.jpgThe Zimbabwe Republic Police has encouraged Zimbabweans to rejoice in a peaceful and responsible manner and desist from acts of vandalism as they commemorate the New Year.

As 2011 beckons, people celebrate the New Year in a number of ways. Some go about turning waste bins upside down, throwing garbage on city streets while others even vandalise the   bins and sign posts.

The police have however discouraged this kind of wild celebration urging people to celebrate with dignity.

The police spokesperson, Chief Superintendent Oliver Mandipaka said that police will be moving around ensuring that people celebrate responsibly.

He advised Zimbabweans that when they wish to use crackers or fireworks during the commemoration they should seek authority from the police.

“We understand that the people usually celebrate the New Year in wild fashion …..,” he said.

After the trials and tribulations of the year 2010, with the good rains so far received and the stable economic environment, year 2011 promises to be a better one and hence the justification for celebrating the coming new year.
