The Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services (ZPCS) yesterday (Saturday) hosted an inmates chess tournament under the theme: ‘Chess Behind the Walls.’

The chess tournament, which is in its second year running, is meant give a platform for inmates to interact with members of the public including correctional officers in a game of chess.

ZPCS Commissioner General Paradzai Zimondi urged the society to understand that inmates are human beings after all.

“The idea is for them to understand that being behind bars does not mean that they are not human but they are paying for their misdeed,” he added.

The tournament was hosted by ZPCS with a local car rental company which also funded for the prizes.

Participants, including officers and inmates, from various provinces walked away with special prizes.
