The Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services (ZPCS) has partnered with Child Line to rehabilitate child offenders in prisons around Mashonaland East Province.
The programme will ensure that child offenders get rehabilitated and re-integrated into society after serving their prisons terms.
In an interview with the ZBC News at a seminar involving various stakeholders in Marondera, Child Line Country Director, Stella Motsi said child offenders have been neglected which has resulted in them committing crimes once they are released.
According to the ZPCS, the aim is for child offenders to be re-integrated into society and prepare them for life after prison.
Some of the programs include construction and refurbishment of 26 counseling spaces, training of ZPCS rehabilitation officers, payment of fees for offenders and avail them with funds to start up projects after release.
Mashonaland East currently has 136 young offenders with 129 boys and 7 girls in its six prisons.
