Players in the tourism sector have hailed an initiative by the government to jointly bid with Zambia in the co-hosting of the 2013 United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) General Assembly, saying they are ready to show the world that Zimbabwe has what it takes to host such a world class event.
Public Relations Manager of one of the tour and adventure operators in Victoria Falls, Mr Clement Mukwasi said hosting the conference will enable them to stretch their resources to full capacity for the first time and create thousands of new jobs through service provision as well as renovating the current infrastructure.
A tourism and travel executive, Mr Ben Tessa concurred with his counterpart and expressed confidence that the two countries will win the bid as they have the capacity to hold a conference of that magnitude.
The concept of co-hosting a conference was first seen at the UNWTO General Assembly which was co hosted by Brazil and Argentina and the two countries share the Aguassi Falls.
This year’s UNTWO General Assembly is going to be hosted by South Korea next month.
