Zimbabwe National Army Commander Lieutenant General Philip Valerio Sibanda has urged the nation to guard against foreign domination and culture erosion so as to effectively defend our norms and values.

Lieutenant General Sibanda said this at the Culture Day celebrations at 5.3 Infantry Battalion in Ngezi.

People from all walks of life including recruits gathered at 5.3 Infantry Battalion Recruit Satellite Training Centre to commemorate Culture Day which was set aside by the military to enlighten young recruits on the country’s rich cultural diversity.

Addressing the gathering Lieutenant General Sibanda lamented the erosion of the country’s cultural values and norms which he said were under threat from the western culture dominating social media.

He said the nation should guard against foreign domination and culture erosion.

Commandant 5.3 Infantry Battalion Colonel Simo said celebrating culture day instills a sense of belonging to the young soldiers.

The day gives training staff and recruits a platform to demonstrate their cultural depth through song and dance.

Artifacts that are an embodiment of the country’s social cultural and historical significance were also on display.
