24-year old Zimbabwean-born Vimbai Chapungu has broken new ground by becoming a finalist at this year’s Miss England beauty pageant and emerging as the first ever black person to hold the Miss London title.
The beauty queen,represented London at the Miss England and made it to the top 50 in a contest that saw more than 20 000 entries vying for the crown.
An advocate of natural African hair, Chapungu wore her natural hair during the pageant and emerged among the top three of the 55 contestants for the bare-faced model title.
As part of her Masters thesis, she embarked on a natural hair movement to empower black women to wear their natural hair without any chemical processing, which actually has side effects.
Chapungu hopes to make Africa proud and to represent the continent during her reign.
