tennis open.jpgThe Sport and Recreation Commission (SRC) says it is almost done with the selection of Zimbabwe’s Zone 6 games team. The commission has however warned participating national associations to guard against age cheating to save the country from embarrassment at the games which will be hosted by Swaziland this year.

Sport and Recreation Commission Development Manager Angela Nyaundi said accreditation of all the participating disciplines is almost complete save for swimming and football.

“Accreditation is almost finished except that we are yet to receive the Under 20 names for football and swimming,” said Nyaundi.

Nyaundi said preparations for the games are in full swing in the various provinces but hinted that the national youth games in august will provide the final platform for preparations and selection.

“Coaching workshops and training camps are going on in the various provinces but as the Sports and Recreation Commission we are focused on using the national youth games set for August as our last opportunity to fine tune the team. We also want to inform the associations that we will not allow any child who will turn 20 by the 30th of November.”
She however warned associations to be conscious of the age category for the SADC Zone six games.

The Under 20 zone six games will feature seven sporting disciplines namely boxing, basketball, netball, athletics for the normal and visually impaired, tennis, swimming and football.
