Speaker of the National Assembly, Advocate Jacob Mudenda has hailed a mutual agreement between UK’s Department of International Development (DFID) and the Parliament of Zimbabwe for the former to impart capacity building to local National Assembly members.

Advocate Mudenda told the ZBC News that he held a fruitful meeting with Catherine Weiss, who is a Senior Advisor and Head of Governance and Economic Team under DFID UK.

He said the government of Zimbabwe needs to build capacity for its National Assembly members as more than 60 percent are new, hence the need to be empowered on parliament functions and operations.

The government of Zimbabwe is now in the process of coming up with a programme on the implementation of the capacity building exercise for the sound operation of the 9th parliament.
