under19 cricket1.jpgThe Zimbabwe Under-19 cricket team crashed to a second consecutive defeat, when they fell to South Africa by one wicket in a second 1-day International at Harare Sports Club on Monday.

After losing the toss and sent in to field by South Africa’s captain Keaton Jennings, Zimbabwe put up a much more spirited batting display which saw them being bowled out for 223 runs.

Brian Chari top scored for the hosts with an impressive 69 runs while Kevin Hook and Tinotenda Mutombodzi chipped in with 29 and 24 runs respectively.

Riyaad Henry was South Africa’s danger man in the young Protea’s bowling attack taking 4 wickets for 39 runs with Zimbabwe’s innings shrouded by poor running between the wickets, as 4 batsmen perished in run outs.

After scoring a 50 in the 1st ODI on Sunday, Keaton Jennings was at it again, top scoring for the visitors with 65 runs. Jennings was South Africa’s rock, as the tourists surpassed Zimbabwe’s target on the very last ball of an enthralling encounter at Harare Sports Club.

James Price’s 39 and Simon Khomari’s 30 run contribution were in the end vital in ensuring South Africa took a 2-0 lead, in the 5 ODI series.

The two teams clash in the 3rd ODI on Wednesday with Zimbabwe having no option other than victory if they are to stay in contention for a series win.
