The Zimbabwe U16 girls team for the Afrobasket tournament set for Beira Mozambique is now in camp.

Zimbabwe’s under 16 girls basketball team got qualification to the Afrobasket tournament set for Beira after other nations failed to compete for the slot.

The country thus becomes Southern region representative to join hosts Mozambique.

A 19 member squad has already trooped into camp with the final squad set to be unveiled on the 24th of this month.

With the draw set for this week, the Basketball Union of Zimbabwe secretary general, Joe Mujuru believes the country can look up to the impressive performances showcased by junior teams  in previous competitions to inspire the girls during this year’s tournament.

This will be the third time the girls team participates at the finals where 15 other countries will be vying for the continental bragging rights.

The first time was 6 years ago in Egypt before the second dance came in 2015 in Mauritius.

The Basketball Union has also revealed it is working at setting up provincial structures, with Bulawayo, Harare, Manicaland and Midlands having already been concluded.
