Most local authorities are lagging behind in terms of development and upgrading of infrastructure for essential services, with many cities having out grown their design capacity resulting in poor service delivery.

This was said by the President of the Urban Councils Association of Zimbabwe, Councillor Bernard Manyenyeni in Mutare today during a  review workshop on the state of water and sanitation in local authorities.

Vice Chairperson of the Peer Review Coordinating Committee, Mr Shangwa Mavesera said poor relationship between local authorities and residents is a major critical challenge which has caused low revenue generation.

The one day review workshop was aimed at bench-marking the state of water and sanitation in local authorities, to share and discuss challenges faced by local authorities in discharging the WASH programme and come up with recommendations.
