The desire by Zimbabwe to co-host the 2013 UNWTO General Assembly has intensified with a delegation already in Spain to officially launch the bid.

Speaking to ZBC News in the capital, Minister of Tourism and Hospitality Industry, Cde Walter Mzembi said a delegation led by the Permanent Secretary in his ministry is already in the European country.

If Zimbabwe is successful, Victoria Falls will play host to this global event.

Zimbabwe proposes to co-host the event with Zambia and sources say SADC is backing the bid.

186 countries are expected to attend. The country’s tourism industry is on a growth path with hopes high that the sector will contribute 15% to the country’s gross domestic product this year.
